Check | No, the retirement age of central government employees has not been increased to 62 years

What did we find?: When we did a keyword search on Google, we found one answers are provided in the Rajya Sabha by the Minister of State for the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Dr Jitendra Singh.

  • The question, answered on March 17, 2022, sought details from the department and asked if there was a proposal to extend the retirement age of government employees.

  • Singh, in his reply, said that no such proposal was under consideration.

What was in the Seventh Central Pay Commission Report?: Team WebQoof went through Report but found no mention of raising the retirement age of all government employees to 62 years.

No news reports or information available: We did not find any credible news reports that said such an extension was announced by the Union Government.

The PIB rejected the claim: Sharing the viral message, the officer X handle from the PIB’s fact checker called it “false” and said the government has not taken any such decision.

Conclusion: It is clear that the viral notification is fake and no such announcement has been made by the Union Government.
