Checking road conditions in Connecticut as rain continues throughout the morning

News 12 Connecticut’s Mark Sudol is in Thunderbolt 12 with the latest on wet road conditions.

Safety tips for driving in wet weather:

  • Slow down: Wet roads can be dangerous. Reduce speed by a third on wet roads.
  • Avoid jerky, abrupt movements when braking, accelerating or turning.
  • Turn on your lights: Rain makes it harder for other drivers to see your vehicle.
  • Increase your following distance: You should leave at least five seconds of following distance between your car and the one in front.
  • Avoid standing water: You should not drive on roads covered with water.
  • Avoid using cruise control: Cruise control can interfere with your vehicle’s ability to slow down.
  • Prepare your car: Make sure your tires have enough air pressure and tread and check your windshield wipers.
