Srinagar, Nov 21 (PTI) National Conference President Farooq Abdullah on Thursday said the Center should take the allegations against the Adani group seriously and investigate the matter thoroughly.

The former chief minister said that while he does not have much information on the matter related to the Adani group, there have been allegations of wrongdoing in the past as well.

– If it has happened, it must be investigated, he says.

“There is a demand for JPC. I hope the central government will take the issue seriously and look into it thoroughly,” Abdullah told reporters.

The billionaire industrialist has been accused by US prosecutors of being involved in a scheme to pay over $250 million (about Rs 2,100 crore) in bribes to Indian officials in exchange for favorable terms for solar power contracts.

This was hidden from the US banks and investors from whom the Adani group raised billions of dollars for the project, prosecutors have alleged. US law allows foreign corruption charges to be pursued if they involve certain links to US investors or markets.

However, the Adani group has denied the allegations. Responding to a question about his party member Aga Ruhullah Mehdi seeking a review of reservation, Abdullah said “this is good that the Lok Sabha member is addressing people’s issues.

“The government’s job is to bring forward all the issues of the people. ‘Gundaraj’ is over. We are accountable to people because they have voted for us,” he said. PTI MIJ DV DV
