Brett Goldstein understood if he can write a script without swearing, and his answer got Big Roy Kent Energy

There’s no other way to put this, if you watch a project that Brett Goldstein is on, odds are you’ll hear him drop at least one f-bomb. Of course, there are exceptions – like his appearance on Sesame Street. But most of the time the man is associated with profanity. He loves it, and recently he understood if he could write without curse words. Let me tell you, his response is very Roy Kent coded.

With Shrinks second season broadcast on TV schedule 2024and Goldstein steps in front of the camera this season to play the heartbreaking character Louisthe actor was recently out promoting it. As the writer and co-creator of the comedy, he has become known as a guy who knows everything. So during an interview with the AP, he was asked if we could write something without swearing, and this is what he replied:

Thinking about my back catalog, I don’t know. Funnily enough, I write something. One of the things I write is kind of – like an experiment – I started like, “This could work for families.” Can I write that without swearing? And I really struggle. I’m really struggling, because I feel like it would be better if they said ‘fuck it’. Like I can do it, but I just don’t think it’s as good.

This answer has a lot of Roy Kent energy to me. While Goldstein responded in a less grumpy and explicit way, his unwavering energy when it comes to the word “fuck” is something I think his AFC Richmond coach-turned-player would agree with.

God, Roy curses so much Ted Lasso that his niece Phoebe calls him out on it and even makes him pay her every time he lets out a bad word. That energy of trying not to swear and failing radiated from the actor in this interview as well.

If you watch basically any of the comedian’s late-night performances, you’ll hear that beeping sound. Of all in Ted Lasso throwhe definitely curses the most. And even when he won an Emmy in 2021 for playing Roy, an f-bomb was dropped immediately during his acceptance speech when he explained that he was asked not to swear.

So, you know, I understand why he said it would be hard not to incorporate cursing into his work.

But I’d love to see this family friendly project he’s apparently trying to write. Especially both Shrinks and Ted Lasso are heartwarming and thoughtful shows that are fun for the whole family (as long as you don’t mind a few curse words here and there). So I know he can develop a great story for all ages.

The question is: Is he willing to do it?

I guess only time will tell, but as Roy Kent, the man who plays him loves a good f-bomb. So I doubt we’ll see anything heavily rated PG from him anytime soon.
