Train crashes into car on tracks in northern suburbs after car crashAn Amtrak train crashed into a vehicle that was on the tracks in Morton Grove following a crash Thursday night, authorities said.

MORTON GROVE, Ill. (WLS) — Two cars collided in the northern suburb on Thursday evening, one of which crashed onto train tracks.

The driver was able to escape before the Amtrak train struck the vehicle.

The crash happened around 7:45 p.m. near River Drive and Lehigh Street in Morton Grove, on tracks Amtrak shares with Metra.

Police said the driver of the Acura struck a parked car on Lehigh Boulevard before hitting the tracks, causing the vehicle to become undrivable. The 56-year-old man driving the Acura was arrested for drunken driving.

Metra’s Milwaukee Northern Line was operating with delays as tracks were expected to be closed overnight.

No one was seriously injured in the accident.
