LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – The month of October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and here to highlight the importance of catching breast cancer early is a surgeon with Laredo Physicians Group.

General surgeon and breast surgeon, Dr. Alina Ghani, stopped by the KGNS studio to talk to the community about breast cancer awareness and what you can do to prevent it or catch it early.

According to Ghani, breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world for women, and on average one in eight women will develop breast cancer at some point in their lives.

Ghani adds that breast cancer is one of the most treatable cancers, especially with advances in medical technology.

It is important to have mammograms every year to check for breast cancer, both for peace of mind and to catch it early.
