Organized by Special Olympics International for the Middle East and North Africa, the event is being staged in Cairo as part of preparations for the Special Olympics World Winter Games, which will take place in Turin, Italy, in March 2025.

Fahad Al-Sahli, deputy secretary of Al-Tomooh Sports Club and official representative of the Kuwaiti Special Olympics, told KUNA that the camp brings together athletes and coaches from 22 countries. Its aim is to improve training skills and qualify participants to lead programs at an international level.

Al-Sahli emphasized the importance of this camp to refine skills and promote exchange of experiences among the participants, especially as they prepare for the challenges of the upcoming World Winter Games.

He reaffirmed Special Olympics’ commitment to preparing athletes and technical teams for the global stage, and emphasized their goal of presenting a commendable image of Kuwaiti sports for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Al-Sahli also noted Kuwait’s outstanding performance in the 2023 World Games in Berlin, where Kuwaiti champions secured 21 medals, further strengthening their global presence and reputation.
