The Bulldogs go ahead in the second quarter

The fireworks and everything-rides-on-this feeling might not be there for Georgia football team for its game today with UMass, but it’s still a Saturday in Athens for Bulldogs fans to tailgate and have a grown-up drink or two.

Sanford Stadium figures to not be filled to capacity for this 12:45 pm kick off. The student sections, especially in Sanford Stadium, don’t appear to be packed for this 12:45pm kickoff. The student sections in particular may be affected by the early start and some go home early for Thanksgiving.

We don’t expect to see injured running back Travis Etienne or wide receiver Dillon Bell today.

“I think every week it’s more about what we do, focusing on us every week and seeing how we can get better,” offensive guard Tate Ratlege said

Today is the penultimate home game of the regular season but it’s Georgia’s senior day.

Ratledge is one of 15 seniors listed on the roster, but usually other players go through ceremonies even if eligibility remains.

Among the other seniors: quarterback Carson Beck, linebackers Smael Mondon and Chaz Chambliss, safety Dan Jackson, receivers Dominic Lovett and Arian Smith and defensive linemen Nazir Stackhouse and Warren Brinson.

13:43 Dominic Lovett’s over-the-shoulder pass adds another 6 to Georgia’s total

Dominic Lovett caught a 15-yard pass over his shoulder from Carson Beck to cap a three-play, 28-yard drive and add six more points to the Bulldogs’ total. Georgia is up 21-7 now with 8:56 left in the second quarter.

13:33 Carson Beck touchdown pass gives Georgia the lead

A 49-yard Carson Beck pass to Arian Smith helped Georgia pull off an 8-yard touchdown pass from Beck to running back Cash Jones to put the Bulldogs up 14-7 with 10:30 left in the first half.

13:05 Oscar Delp touchdown game for football in Georgia

Nate Frazier rushed for 21 yards on 4 carries on Georgia’s opening offensive drive and the Bulldogs tied the game on a Carson Beck short pass that tight end Oscar Delp caught for a 17-yard touchdown. Match tied at 7.

12:55 Georgia’s defense was crushed by UMass on the opening drive

UMass football marched down the field for a 75-yard first touchdown. The Minutemen gained 71 yards on the ground as the Bulldogs defense had missed tackles and was traded. CJ Hester’s 1-yard touchdown makes it 7-0 with 9:15 left in the first.

12:29 Some fourth-year football juniors from Georgia participate in Senior Day

Kirby Smart greeted 23 players on the field for Senior Day ceremonies. That included redshirt junior offensive linemen Jared Wilson and Micah Morris who still have eligibility remaining.

12:06 Trevor Etienne, second overruled

As expected, leading rusher Trevor Etienne is out as he misses a second straight game with injured ribs. Reserve offensive lineman Nyier Daniels has an arm in a sling and rookie offensive lineman Marcus Harrison is also not dressed. Tackle Earnest Greene is out as last week but is unlikely to play due to a shoulder injury.

Branson Robinson and Roderick Robinson go through warm-ups dressed as the slopes. Can both good for them to go next week.

11:37 PM Senior Day details for Georgia football

Georgia will hold Senior Day ceremonies at 12:23 p.m., but the school has not released a list saying exactly how many players are participating and their names.

Players can go through the ceremony and return. Xavier Truss has done it each of the last two years. Keep an eye out for this year’s harvest.

11:12 Georgia running backs close to a comeback?

Running backs Branson Robinson and Roderick Robinson along with offensive tackle Earnest Greene run under the watchful eye of Georgia strength and conditioning coach Scott Sinclair. That probably means Greene is out today as the running backs but they could be getting closer to returning.

Here’s what Kirby Smart said Tuesday about Branson Robinson: “He’s running. I think I’m saying this right. He started cutting yesterday, and he’s cutting. He didn’t do anything with us, but he ran a lot. He hits good speed. He gets his confidence back, he plans and cuts reps with us.”

11:05 a.m. Georgia football WR Dillon Bell still in a boot

Dillon Bell catches some balls on the field, but he’s wearing shorts and his left foot is still in a boot after he left last week’s Tennessee win injured. Getting him back for Georgia Tech would be a huge boost if he can contribute.

10:54 Georgia Bulldogs game captains today

Georgia’s game captains today: defensive end Mykel Williams, offensive guard Xavier Truss, safety Dan Jackson and center Jared Wilson.

10:38 UMass Senior Day distraction?

Georgia has its Senior Day today while UMass has had to deal with a brewing controversy over its own Senior Day next week.

The same week coach Don Brown was fired, some players and families were upset that there would not be senior day ceremonies as usual.

The school Friday took to X, earlier, Twitter to explain what the plans are for the UConn game with 56 seniors.

10:18 Your referee for Georgia football vs. UMass

Judge today is Lee Hedrick. He played the Georgia game at Vanderbilt last year and the Georgia Tech game in 2022.

10:06 Daniel Harris makes his move for Georgia football

Line-up announcements were shown on the video board more than three hours before kick-off. That included cornerback Daniel Harris stepping in for Julian Humphrey against Tennessee.

“He’s been playing significantly more the last few weeks because he’s been practicing better,” coach Kirby Smart said. “I thought his practice habits really started to change after Texas in the off week. I thought he stepped up and had really good practices. His playing time has increased since then.

The defensive starters on the video board appeared to be limited, but not so for the offense where Dillon Bell was still out and believed to be out with a foot injury.
