Be informed

We worked with the courts to create a service delivery model for the Family Justice Strategy so that Albertans, especially those who do not use a lawyer, will have consistent processes and access to support, regardless of the court level or under which legislation a case begins.

We held roundtable discussions with legal, clinical, academic and community experts in October 2024 to gather their views on the family justice approach.

Through the Family Justice Strategy, Albertans in Calgary and Edmonton can access pre-trial services as a first step in seeking divorce, or resolving spousal support, parenting or child support. Services include:

  • Forms of dispute resolution such as mediation, where people meet with a neutral mediator to discuss issues such as parenting, child support and spousal support.
  • An online post-separation parenting course for all parents with minor children.
  • Support from a family court advisor for anyone representing themselves.
  • Access to information by phone, in person and online.
