Left-hander Patrick Sandoval, the Angels’ Opening Day starter last season, was one of four players to become a free agent by not being tendered before Friday’s 5 p.m. PT deadline.

Sandoval, 28, showed promise at times during his six seasons with the Angels, most notably posting a 2.91 ERA in 27 starts in 2022. Next spring he was one of Mexico’s starters in the World Baseball Classic. However, his 2023 season was disappointing. He posted a 4.11 ERA in 28 starts.

Last season, he had a 5.08 ERA in 16 starts before his season ended with Tommy John surgery.
