Pamela Hayden has played Bart’s best friend Milhouse on The Simpsons for nearly 700 episodes.

But on Wednesday, the 70-year-old announced her official departure from the series.

In a statement to fans, Pamela said: “It’s time for me to hang up my mic.

“It has been an honor and a joy to have worked on such a funny, witty and ground-breaking show…

“I will always have a special place in my heart for that blue-haired 10-year-old boy with glasses.”

She added that it wasn’t quite the end of her voice over career, saying she was leaving to “pursue other creative outlets”.

Pamela’s final episode in the role will air this Sunday, November 24.

The Simpsons bosses have revealed they will start casting for the star’s replacement in the future.

Pamela has been a part of the show since it premiered in 1989.

The Milhouse character was named by show bosses after the former President of the United States Richard Milhous Nixon.
