Chidimma Adetshina: “When I go and answer di mata about my South African citizenship”

Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, will be the first runner-up in the Miss Universe 2024 pageant, but she says she is going to answer the di mata of her South African citizenship when she understands the problems.

Chidimma took an exclusive interview with BBC Pidgin as she lands in Nigeria after her successful trip to Mexico, where she set records for the opposition.

On Saturday night, Miss Denmark, Victoria Kjr Theilvig 2024 wins the Miss Universe title while Chidimma ends up as first runner-up in the competition.

After Victoria Kjr Theilvig won the crown, Chidimma emerged as a continental queen for Miss Universe Africa and Oceania.

She faces criticism when some of them question her eligibility to compete for South Africa Miss Universe because her mother has Mozambican roots and her father is Nigerian.

The Department of Home Affairs begins to investigate her case after she became a finalist in the Miss South Africa pageant.

She withdrew from the competition in August after the department announced that her mother was not committing “identity theft” to become a South African citizen.

Ms Adetshina, we are a law student, goes on to win Miss Universe Nigeria after the organizers invited her to participate in the beauty pageant.

As hon bin dey Mexico prepares for the Miss Universe pageant, tori comot says again from the South African government that they are withdrawing Chidimma’s identity and travel documents.

During her welcome party to Nigeria on Thursday, Chidimma told BBC Pidgin that she never gets all the details of what she has to do with her identity issue for South Africa because she never follows the lawyer tok but once she gets more information she goes to the food.

“Pipo is really interested in the story. And like I say, I never go home, I never get to hear anything. I never settle down with a lawyer or anything. So I’m not just looking after cans,” she said.

“So once I get everything sorted out, I’m definitely going to open up and give pipo clarity about di mata.

“My goal is to reach the top 30”

Chidimma says she wants to cry for the Miss Universe stage when they called her up for the top five contestants because she doesn’t expect it.

She says she set a goal to reach the top 30 and bin didn’t care.

Chidimma says she is proud of herself and says she is exceeding her own expectations.

“Obviously we all want a crown, but we only have one winner, and we’re 125. So I really have to focus my mind, on making sure I achieve what I really want. And I actually make my top 30. Because me, I just like top 30. So I’m actually saying that I exceed my expectations, I’m really proud of myself.”

She also talks about the support she gets from Nigerians and Africans.

“Just like getting to this stage, I am so proud and know that I am getting a lot of support, not only from Nigerians, but from Africa, an overwhelming experience, because I can never say that I go and receive love and support, and I feel so refreshing to actually feel so loved and so accepted that I just take it from my heart.”

“I will not participate in any beauty pageant again at the moment”

Chidimma says she will not participate in any beauty pageant again for now as she wants to focus on herself and her education.

“I want to put the pageant to bed right now, but I’m focusing more on my education and obviously establishing who Chidimma is, more on runways, more on acting, so many cans I go and like to touch and really see how my potentials fit go .” Chidimma took.

As Miss Universe Africa and Oceania, Chidimma tok says she goes and works with Miss Universe organizers on various projects

She says she neva sabi wetin dem go dey do exactly but e go involve traveling to kontris to do project

“So we all get different titles. We fly out to different countries and get different projects, we go happy for different countries,” Chidimma took.

“We’ve never been clear on how exactly we’re going to do it, but we know for sure that we’re going to travel to Kontris Togeda and we’re going to do a lot of projects in Togeda, and I’m really happy to say that I’m going to represent Africa.”
