An Alien: Romulus sequel is currently in the works

After Alien: Romulus‘ success at the box office, it seems a sequel may already be in the works.

“We’re working on a sequel now,” 20th Century Studios head Steve Asbell said in a recent interview (via THR). “We haven’t quite finished our deal with (Romulus director) Fede (Alvarez), but we will, and he has an idea we’re working on.”

Asbell even revealed some of the sequel’s potential plot points.

“The two survivors, Rain and Andy – played by Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson – were real highlights of the film,” Asbell said of Romulus’ main characters. “And so I always think about it like, ‘Wow, where do people want to see them go next?’ We know there will be aliens. We know there will be great horror movies, but I fell in love with both of them, and I want to see what their history is.

Alien: Romulus grossed over $350.8 million worldwide on a budget of just $80 million, proving that the franchise still has serious earning power, and that audiences are still dying to see Ridley Scott’s bloodthirsty monstrosity creep across the screen . (Apparently they also want to see it creep through their VCRs, because the movie gets one VHS release except for being released on Blu-ray.)

But a Romulus sequel isn’t the only creature feature audiences have to look forward to — Asbell says 20th Century Studios currently doesn’t have one but two Predator movies in the pipelineboth of which are slated for release in 2025.

“Two (Predator movies) are coming out next year,” Asbell said. “One I can’t talk about yet, but the other is the live-action Predator movie with Elle Fanning that just shot in New Zealand. It’s coming to theaters sometime next year.”

When asked about a new Alien vs. Predator movie could be on the horizon, Asbell replied simply: “Probably.”

2024 has been a particularly good year for Alien fans, as shortly after the release of Alien: Romulus, the iconic survival horror game was announced Alien: Isolation is finally getting a sequel. Based on Asbell’s recent comments, it looks like the trend will continue as we head into 2025, and Predator fans will have a lot to look forward to as well.
