Valdosta structure fire late Wednesday night under investigation

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) – A late-night structure fire is under investigation after heavy smoke and flames broke out at a vacant residential building in Valdosta.

A police officer on patrol noticed the fire in a vacant structure late at night on Wednesday, October 23.

At approximately 11:30 p.m., the Valdosta Fire Department responded to 308 Lee St. responded to a report of a residential structure fire on Lane.

Fire crews arrived at the scene within 3 minutes and found heavy smoke and flames coming out of the building. In total, seventeen firefighters responded.

They launched an aggressive fire attack while also searching to confirm that the building was vacant.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Valdosta Police Department and SGMC Health EMS provided assistance during scene operations.
